Johnston Carmichael wins Verve audit and tax role

We are delighted to announce that Johnston Carmichael have been appointed by Scottish automotive retailer, Verve, to be its auditor and tax adviser.

Established in 1998, Verve operates in seven locations in west, central and south Scotland, selling a range of new and used cars, featuring a range of brands including VW, Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep and Kia. The business currently turns over more than £100m per year and employs more than 400 staff.

Glasgow-based Johnston Carmichael partner, Ricky Murray will lead the Johnston Carmichael team in communicating and reporting directly with Verve owner and managing director Charlie Adair.

The win is one of the most significant to date for Johnston Carmichael’s Glasgow office which was opened in 2003 as part of the firm’s continuing expansion across Scotland. The firm now has a strong team of over 150 people in the central belt. In the past four years the Glasgow office’s fee income has trebled to £2.3m and the office now employs 35 people including the business recovery team which was formed last year.

Commenting on the new relationship with Verve, Ricky Murray said: “This is a significant development for our Glasgow office.  Our knowledge of the automotive sector and our wider understanding of the Scottish SME community have helped us land this valuable client and we very much look forward to working with Charlie and his team.”

Verve managing director, Charlie Adair said: “For an ambitious business like ours it’s important to work with advisers who understand what we want to achieve and can demonstrate a great track record in delivering for other like minded companies. I also felt that Johnston Carmichael was the right size of firm for us, able to give us hands-on commitment from their top people.”
